Opening Song

Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing

LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING LYRICS

Lift every voice and sing,

'Til earth and heaven ring,

Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;

Let our rejoicing rise

High as the list'ning skies,

Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.

Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,

Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,

Let us march on 'til victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,

Bitter the chastening rod,

Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

Yet with a steady beat,

Have not our weary feet

Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?

We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,

We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,

Out from the gloomy past,

'Til now we stand at last

Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,

God of our silent tears,

Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;

Thou who has by Thy might

Led us into the light,

Keep us forever in the path, we pray.

Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,

our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;

Shadowed beneath Thy hand,

May we forever stand,

True to our God,

True to our native land.

Dr. Royal L. Harrison, Director,

& the Greater Los Angeles Region,

Greetings and Happy Sabbath Dr. Harrison, to you and the saints of God,

It is a blessing to join you during this time of praise and fellowship. In a world seeking to promote division, elitism, and exclusion, God says the testimony of His existence and involvement in our world is characterized by our demonstration of love through an acceptance of diversity, a support of equity, and our humble inclusion of all God’s children. Your theme of “Reconnect” underscores the message of the gospel and the mission of the church. As children committed to the ministry of reconciliation, we are called to follow the example of Christ. In John 17 Jesus prays to the Father for Himself, for His disciples, and for those who will eventually follow His word. He calls us to repent, return, restore, reconcile and to reset, if you please. In essence Jesus desires for us to be made whole in every way possible. I’m sure that this weekend of worship, praise, and fellowship will draw us closer to God and to one another.

“The controversy ends on this earth only after God’s people give glory to Him (Revelation 14:7) in such a way that all earthly inhabitants can make an intelligent decision as to whether God’s program is something they should choose for themselves.” (MOL p. 257)

My prayer is that we choose to glorify God daily - all day long. May the presence of God’s spirit dwell richly in all of us during this time of holy convocation.

Blessings,

Elder Virgil S. Childs

GLAR Convocation Attendees Southern California Conference

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024 Greater Los Angeles Region (GLAR) Convocation!

This event is not only a special time for spiritual revitalization as you engage in worship and fellowship, but also an opportunity to make an incredible impact in the community through prayer and outreach. Most importantly, it’s a time to discover the power of reconnecting by disconnecting.

Luke 5:16 says, “But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion].” As Jesus often withdrew from the crowd to connect with His Father, I encourage you to withdraw and disconnect from your busy world and the things that take you away from the presence of God and open your hearts to the myriad ways to connect and reconnect.

Your theme is a profound call to each of us. “Reconnect” is an invitation to deepen our connection with the Divine, with one another, and with the core of our spiritual journeys.

As you navigate through the sessions, may your gathering be filled with meaningful connections, transformative messages, and life- changing moments of growth and inspiration!

Be renewed, refreshed, and reconnected! Together in mission,

G. Alexander Bryant, DMin, President

April 2024

Greater Los Angeles Region

Southern California Conference

Dear GLAR church members:

Warm greetings on this splendid spring, and wonderful Sabbath, day.

On behalf of the 38,000 church members in the Southern California Conference, Icongratulate you for your commitment to God's mission and the impacting outcomes in your immediate communities in our territory.

After five long years, we finally can get together again to worship God, have fellowship, and be encouraged as God's family in this thriving conference. RECONNECT, the theme chosen for this grand event and encounter as children of God, is more than appropriate after being unable to reconvene for collective adoration and individual renewal due to the unexpected and unpleasant pandemic.

I pray that we can leave this place today with the assured conviction that God was here and a renewed commitment to share the Gospel of Jesus, with a reinforced compassionate spirit, to be God's agents of love.

I also encourage you t h a ton this occasion, you can CONNECT with at least one person you have not met before. Let's enjoy our spiritual and social gathering and let's experience the presence of God.

On Heaven's bound,

Velino A. Salazar

President
